Financial Reporting

In 2024, the EBU delivered a solid financial performance.

Despite a statutory loss, we achieved a positive comparable surplus — exceeding both budget and forecast — through disciplined cost management and the use of earmarked reserves.

Strategic cost-saving initiatives and a temporary adjustment in membership fees have allowed us to continue to operate sustainably, despite the suspension of several large Members and the sale of Eurovision Services in recent years.

Membership fees will normalize in 2025-2026, reflecting financial stability and the introduction of a discounted fee structure for South Mediterranean Members.

Our strengthened financial position has also enabled us to create a Strategic Innovation Fund to support member-driven projects that will support public service media in this fast-moving media world.

Our consistent focus on transforming our workforce and providing financial resilience and service excellence has positioned us well for continued success.

EBU Staff

In 2024, the EBU made strong progress on its workforce transformation journey. Almost a quarter of our staff are now based outside Switzerland — an increase of 50% in just two years. This growth has helped us build a more diverse organization and close the gender gap: we now have more women than men in management, and we have achieved a 50:50 gender balance overall.

We are also proud to have received equal pay certification from Fair-ON-Pay last May, recognizing our commitment to fairness and transparency in how we reward our people.

As our team becomes more global, we have introduced a floating day to allow colleagues to celebrate non-Christian holidays — one more way we are embracing inclusion as a core value.

Our expansion, including the opening of the Madrid Hub in September, supports our cost optimization goals while also strengthening our ability to attract and retain top talent. Applications are up sevenfold since 2022, and staff turnover in Geneva has dropped to just 3%.

The EBU’s global headcount stands at 256.2 FTE (including permanent and fixed term contracts, vacant positions and flexforce resources)
